This summer Sidi has a new, more sustainable DZero version of their top Shot 2 road & MTB Tiger 2 SRS mountain bike shoes. Covered in typography of inspirational quotes & inside jokes from Sidi founder Dino Signori, the shoes get all of the best Sidi tech, wrapped up in a flashy new upper made from repurposed industrial waste.
Sidi Shot 2 DZero eco road shoes
In recent years Sidi has gone ultralight and limited edition with their pared-back 60th-anniversary Sixty road shoes. But when pro cyclists are looking for the ultimate in comfort, fit & performance, they still fall back to the ever-so-slightly heavier Shot 2. There they get two of Sidi’s long-proven Tecno-3 Push Flex wire dial adjusters centered out of the way over the tongue, a superlight & stiff vented carbon sole, Reflex adjustable heel retention & fixed heel stiffener, plus SRS replaceable heel & toe tread lugs.
What’s new… is the eco-friendly DZero upper – in white with black text on the road.
Under all that half Italian/half Venetian slang emblazoned across the shoes is a new upper made of pre-consumer recycled content, repurposed industrial waste that Sidi turns back into a tough but lightweight synthetic upper with all the performance of their regular microfiber material. The upper also gets finished with a “Bio Veg” resin made of cornstarch that protects the shoes. And inside, the insole combines natural cotton with 95% recycled polyurethane.
The shoes also now get FSC-certified packaging with only vegetable dyes. And Sidi says everything from the upper to the box they come in is now 100% recyclable.
If you want to know more about what Dino Signor’s joking comments to both athletes and Sidi employees mean before you buy a pair of shoes you can’t quite read, Sidi has a blog post explaining the in-joke phrase meanings…
Sidi MTB Tiger 2 Carbon eco mountain bike shoes
Like the Shot 2, the standard Tiger 2 gets a DZero eco upper upgrade too, just in more mountain bike-appropriate Sage green. Here you get 2 Sidi Tecno-3 Push Flex wire dials across the tongue, the light & stiff MTB SRS Carbon Ground sole with replaceable tread blocks & replaceable cleat plate, Reflex adjustable heel retention & fixed heel stiffener, plus rubber toe protector.
Sidi Shot 2 / Tiger 2 DZero – Pricing & Availability
Both new DZero road & MTB shoes are officially available from October 2022, but you can likely pester your local dealer bike shop to get a pre-order in ahead of time. And while pricing hasn’t been officially announced for the made-in-Italy cycling shoes, we expect they will be near the standard 400€ Shot 2 & 410€ Tiger 2, if maybe just a bit more pricey.
So does Chaz get royalties?
I have some old Dragon 3s that l use to really like. Since I switched to flat pedals my feet are very mid placed. Sidis, at least the Dragons are very foot forward and are so wonky and weird and frankly uncomfortable to use. Too bad because the quality and fit are awesome.
